About intelligence and IQ tests
There still is no universally accepted definition of intelligence. But it's clear that this is a complex concept consisting of many parts. For example: analysis, synthesis, logical thinking, memory, language abilities, spatial thinking, learning abilities, social and emotional skills, and probably much more.
The IQ test engages only a rather limited part of intelligence - mainly logical thinking. Zambian schoolchildren easily handle puzzle tests requiring spatial thinking, but perform poorly on paper-based answers, while English schoolchildren are the opposite. A poor student footballer can instantly assess the situation on the field and make a winning pass.
Can we then lump everyone together with an IQ test? It seems to me that it's greatly overrated, too many people misunderstand it and interpret it as a test of intelligence as a whole. Perhaps its application should be quite strongly limited, in cases where important decisions are made based on it. Make it only one part of assessing intelligence and personality as a whole.
